My name is Dan O’Connell. I am an Interaction Design graduate and web enthusiast who loves designing immersive, creative & user-friendly interactions.

I hope to one day conquer the world with an Arduino board, a windmill and a modem, but in the mean time, I’ll stick to front end web design + development.

This project was created around a brief to create an interactive digital environment, taking use of the Virtual Environment Room in Ravensbourne.

The simplistic design is aimed at creating an intuitive tool that gives instant audio/visual feedback to the users, making an unfamiliar experience easier to grasp. The virtual environments room has three screens, one in front and one on each side of the user, creating an immersive 3D experience. The shape had to be designed so that the user felt like they were inside the application.

I created the (interesting?) sounds in Fruity Loops. The design was modelled in 3D Studio Max and exported it as a .wrl file. The usability is simple. Keys 1-4 changed the viewpoints. To create music, you simply click on the cubes. Each cube has a short loop connected to it, and once it is in the middle, that loop is activated. I was happy with the end result, it could be quite useful for many platforms, such as an interface for browsing tracks in a shop, a music based website or a music game application for the iPhone.
