My name is Dan O’Connell. I am an Interaction Design graduate and web enthusiast who loves designing immersive, creative & user-friendly interactions.
I hope to one day conquer the world with an Arduino board, a windmill and a modem, but in the mean time, I’ll stick to front end web design + development.

This second year university project was based around a Village Fete. The idea was to create a fun and interactive experience that would encourage a wide target audience to participate.

A spin on the traditional game of Pong, the intsallation requires basic physical movements to control the virtual paddles. The class had to present two of their ideas and a vote would take place on the best ideas, fortunately mine was one of them and I ended up become project leader.
The original design would have been a game of pong projected onto a large sphere. Both players would stand on either side and control their paddles with a Wiimote. The closer the ball got to the bottom, the faster the ball would travel, a gravitational effect.
Changes had to be made due to difficulties in mapping images onto the sphere, so a 2D projection was a much more sensible choice. There was a last minute disaster when a change of circumstances occured and we were not able to access a machine that would support Bluetooth, so we had to make a last minute interface. We ended up hacking a USB keyboard so user’s controlled the paddles with their feed using pressure pads.
